The world is too big. That’s the problem. When you can go anywhere, it’s hard to decide to go somewhere. Here is how to break the paralysis.
Phase 1: The Dreaming Phase
Grab a notebook. Write down 5 places you’ve always wanted to go. Don’t worry about money yet. Now, look at a calendar. When can you go? If you can only travel in January, and your list includes “Alaska” and “Thailand,” the weather will make the decision for you.
Phase 2: The Budget Reality
How much can you spend? Be real. If you have $2,000, Paris might be tight, but Mexico City would be luxurious. Research the “cost per day” of your top choices.
Phase 3: The Big Bookings
Flight first. It’s the anchor. Use Expedia to compare prices to your remaining options. Once the flight is booked, the trip is real. Then book the first 2 nights of accommodation. You can figure out the rest later.
Phase 4: The Details
Now the fun part. Read blogs, watch YouTube videos, ask friends. Pin locations on Google Maps. But don’t over-plan. Leave room for magic.
Just Start
The hardest part is committing. Once you put money down on a flight, the anxiety of choice vanishes and is replaced by the excitement of anticipation.
